The Uses of File Sharing Software
Friday, November 28th, 2008Simply put: file sharing software applications allow people to share their files over a computer network. Most file sharing involves the use of what is known as the peer to peer model, often referred to as P2P, wherein each person stores files on their own computers that can then be accessed by trusted sources. This allows files and documents to be used by any number of people, regardless of location.
When it comes to file sharing, peers enjoy a extended network of information. The main difference between files on a peer-to-peer network and other types of file sharing systems is the fact peers are not required to upload files in order to download files in return. That does not mean, however, that everyone on a P2P network has equal access to everyone’s files. Some peers only allow certain files to be downloaded, for instance, read only files or text files or MP3s.
File sharing allows team managers to work with all their members, regardless of location, in a secure manner and from a central point. Not all users have access to all file folders so it is therefore possible to have one set of files for your team members and one of other people such as clients. Permission setting means that you contol who has access to what files.
When changes are made to a file it will still retain its original name although it will be a different version, this saves a lot of time, as you will be able to view the history of who made the changes and on what date they were made. If you have many members working with the files this will make you business run much more efficiently as you will have access to all the information you need when it comes to your files. Any members who are involved in this project will be informed when changes are made. They will have the option of how often to be told about changes to files.
Anyone in the network will be able to send and receive large files as well as images they may contain regardless of internet speeds. There are differences in some peer-to-peer software applications however most file sharing applications are able to effectively search for any information that is needed by the users.
Any files you decide to share are stored in one location. This makes it possible for users to securely access these files. You have total control over anything you decide to share through the p2p software. With fast internet connections becoming more commonplace, more people can use this software in different ways. You do not need to be involved in business to use it; anyone can take advantage of the benefits of this software.
