How Can You Pick The Best Freezer?

Our freezers are the silent workers in our homes. It operates year in and year out, requiring nothing other than a constant supply of electricity. Of course, it will need to be replaced in the future.

Now we will talk about some things that you are better informed of, so you can make the best decision.

First, we will talk about the size. Size of course depends on what you need. Generally though, most people purchase too large a freezer. They base their judgment upon perceived usages rather than real usage. And the story goes something like this: We will need a large freezers because of some special sale that will be at the grocery store. But the sad truth is that these freezers will end up being operated only half full.

Also, remember that all frozen foods should be consumed within six weeks. You food is bound to be dehydrated if you store it longer that that, and no wrapping will help it. Nutritional value and the food taste will be worst as the moisture is leaving the food. Anything that is stored more then a month and a half is considered wasted .

Just remember how many times did you have to throw some food because crystals started to appear. And the ice that is appearing inside the package is a sign of dehydration.

Although small chest freezers are efficient consumers of electricity they will definitely increase your electrical bill.

You will spend more electricity with a upright freezer. The reason for this are the opened doors that let the cold air out. It will have to be on more often in the future. Since the upright freezers are frost free, and most of them are, they consume more power then the older models. So we have to pay for the advantage of not having to defrost it.

You will have a beter choice in compact freezers since they do not waste so much electricity on cooling; the cold air stays inside the containers when the doors open. But chest freezers are manual and they need to defrosted at least once per year.

Most freezers are not somewhere where they can be seen so they do not have to look attractive. Neither do most consumers feel a necessity for them to have many options.
We usually see them as some large boxes where we store our food so we can use it later.

Recently though manufacturers like Frigidaire have been offering a few more options. Just go to the local store and you will find a freezers with built in alarms, frost free feature, push button controls, temperature display and quick freeze options.
